Does a deck
need planning permission?
Generally not.
A deck is not classed as a building because it has no walls or roof,
so council permission is not required. However if the deck is elevated
and may overlook your neighbours, or if you are in a conservation
area, let us know so that we can make enquiries for you.
Which wood
do you use?
70% of our decks
are built in Scandinavian redwood, or pine as we call it. It looks
good, lasts for decades and is not costly. It is also 100% maintenance-free.
If you want hardwood, we use Balau (dark and heavy), Iroko (smooth
and delicate) and Oak (traditional and expensive).
Is the wood
from sustainable sources?
Our pine comes
from the best managed forests in the world and our hardwoods are
all from certified sources that we have checked carefully beforehand.
No endangered species or rainforest timber here.
How much
will a deck cost to build?
You will see
from our website that we give a fully inclusive cost on almost every
featured deck. All costs include VAT. We have a very accurate estimating
system that enables us to give you a reasonable cost indication
over the phone before we visit if you have the dimensions handy.
A fully fitted pine garden deck costs around £95 per square
metre. Hardwood decks start at £140 per square metre, all
inclusive.
What guarantees come with the deck?
This is where
we stand head and shoulders over all those other decking businesses
out there. The wood is guaranteed not to rot for at least 25 years
(for pine), but if a fault is going to develop with a deck, it is
down to the installation and not usually the materials. So we give
a comprehensive 10 year warranty on the WHOLE deck. Materials, labour,
fixtures, everything. And it's backed up by our Comprehensive Insurance.
Beat that!
Payment terms?
Yes, we prefer
you to pay for your deck. We take no deposits. When we have your
order we will give you the next available installation date. A few
days before that, we will deliver all the wood and you pay the first
50%. The balance is paid on the day of completion. Simple.
